General election policy briefing

Last week, on 27 June, Coverdale Barclay co-hosted a breakfast presentation with public affairs firm Lodestone Communications on the likely implications of the upcoming general election for the built environment industry.

 

Speaking to our clients and contacts at The Soho Hotel, managing director Martha Dalton and account director Orlando Wind-Cowie delivered an engaging presentation covering several themes: the likelihood of a Labour government, major milestones post-election, the most important manifesto pledges affecting property and real estate, and the key politicians to engage with on policy.

 

Planning policy reform was front and centre in the discussion – the topic has featured heavily in Labour’s communications in the run up to the election, and the pair outlined what changes to the NPPF, land use change, new towns and further devolution might mean in practice.

 

In terms of communications strategies, getting cut-through with the likely Labour administration after the election will require organisations to familiarise themselves with the party’s tone of voice and policy emphasis. For instance, social value will likely rise up the agenda – and schemes that are able to both deliver and communicate effectively in this area will have an easier time engaging with government.
