We’re fortunate to have the opportunity to work with some of the UK and Europe’s most exciting placemakers, and, as such, we’ll have more to remember than just the record temperatures this summer.
Below are just some of the placemaking initiatives, strategies and campaigns shaping thriving places and communities, that we are proud to have delivered and been involved with this summer:
We kicked off the summer by launching a new stage for emerging artists and acts at Wembley Park. As a platform for grassroots music, BBC Introducing was the perfect launch partner for the stage, and we worked with them to program a day of performances by up-and-coming talent.
The event was featured on BBC and in Time Out, Sheerluxe and Culture Whisper, amongst others.
June saw the launch of the inaugural Kingston International Film Festival. A driving force in Kingston’s cultural resurgence, and supported by patrons including Dougray Scott and Mike Newell, the Festival aims to bring about a solution to the declining independent film industry by providing a supportive new platform for emerging talent. The programme included screenings of winning and shortlisted films, workshops and Q&As.
The festival was featured in The Guardian, City AM and on BBC Radio, amongst others.
Pimm’s in the Park returned to Trinity Village in Borough, SE London, at which local residents came together to enjoy live music, family entertainment, refreshments and, of course, Pimm’s. The afternoon reception is hosted by The Corporation of Trinity House for the tenants of Trinity Village, providing an opportunity to bring the community together.
Construction on a new mixed-use neighbourhood in Stockport, Greater Manchester began in July. Weir Mill will reanimate the historic mill into new town centre with housing, amenities and leisure, and reconnect the town to its impressive waterfront. The £60million transformation is an integral part of Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation’s (MDC) Town Centre West regeneration masterplan, and is being delivered by Capital&Centric, with funding from the MDC and Stockport Council.
The new Soho Photography Quarter completed in London’s West End, launched by The Photographer’s Gallery. Our team were delighted to support the Murphy Careys JV and Westminster City Council on the work undertaken at Ramillies Place, part of the Oxford Street District transformation project. The new Quarter is a fantastic example of how working with partners on the improvements to public realm can change a previously overlooked alleyway into a beautifully designed pedestrian space.
In a demonstration of a strong West End rebound, and leisure offer expansion, The Langham Estate announced a number of new occupiers across its portfolio, including a major new Whistle Punks axe throwing flagship for Europe.
The announcement featured in Retail & Leisure International, The Retail Bulletin and Retail Destination, amongst others.
Swansea has been shortlisted for City of the Year at this year’s EG Awards taking place this November, following the successful completion and opening of its new state-of-the-art arena, which became the UK’s first major new venue to launch post Covid. Many congratulations to Swansea Council and RivingtonHark – the continued transformation story underway across Swansea means the city is fast becoming a landmark destination for business and leisure.
